Press the SYSTEM button on your BOSS GT-10, press the left/right arrow buttons to find the USB option and press ENTER to go into the USB section, in the USB section change Driver Mode: to Advanced, Monitor Cmd: Enable, Dir.Monitor: On. Press the EXIT button twice after making those changes. Now connect a USB cable from your BOSS GT-10 to your computer (so your computer can see your BOSS GT-10). 2. Download and install the GT-10 USB Driver by visiting this webpage: http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=941 or http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=GT-10 [You may have to re-start your computer for the driver to activate]. 3. Then download and install the GT-10 Librarian Version 1.00 software from this webpage: http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=941 or http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=GT-10 4. Open the GT-10 Librarian Version 1.00 software you just installed, click the SETUP menu at the top, click the Setup MIDI Devices option, then change both the Input: and Output: to BOSS GT-10; and then click OK. 5. Connect a USB-cable to your BOSS GT-10 and computer. 6. Make sure the BOSS GT-10 is powered ON. 7. A BOSS GT-10 patch by James Limborg will be e-mailed to you in a .ZIP file. Each .zip file contains 3-files (.mid .gxg .syx); You will only need the .mid file when importing that BOSS GT-10 patch into the GT-10 Librarian Version 1.00 software. UN-ZIP the file/s you received from James Limborg (and remember the location on the hard-drive where you un-zipped the file/s). I use a program called 7-ZIP which you can download for free here: http://download.cnet.com/7-Zip/3000-2250_4-10045185.html?tag=mncol;4 8. On your computer open the GT-10 Librarian Version 1.00 software (if it is not already open). Click the FILE menu at the top left, select Import SMF..., then search your computer for the BOSS GT-10 patch files you previously un-zipped and select one of the .mid files. This will load my BOSS GT-10 patch file into the GT-10 Librarian 1.00 software; and you should see the patch name listed in the Main Window under PatchName and to the right of Number U01-1. 9. Left-click the U01-1 Number or PatchName to highlight it, and then click the 'Selected' button at the top under the 'Write' section to send that patch into your BOSS GT-10 U01-1 User Preset location. TIP: If you would rather send the patch to a different User-Preset location in your BOSS GT-10, first left-click the U01-1 Number or PatchName (in the Librarian software) to highlight it, click the Edit menu at the top and select Cut [or press CTRL-X on your computer keyboard], in the Librarian software click the patch Number you want to move the patch to [U04-4 for example], click the Edit menu at the top and select Paste [or press CTRL-V on your computer keyboard] to paste the patch into that patch Number instead. To send the patch to your BOSS GT-10, click the patch Number or PatchName (in the Librarian software) that you want to send to highlight it, and then click the 'Selected' button at the top under the 'Write' section. It will send the patch to that patch location instead. How Do I Adjust/Increase The Volume Of My BOSS GT-10 Patches? [NOTE: Changing the volume of a BOSS GT-10 patch the wrong way will also change the sound of the patch and/or change how the ASSIGN section was originally setup to function.] OPTION 1 [Easy and safest way]: 1. Press the MASTER/PEDAL FX button on the BOSS GT-10. 2. Press the left-arrow button until you have selected the MASTER option. 3. Press the ENTER button to enter the MASTER section. 4. Press the ENTER button again to change the Patch Level: to increase the patch volume. [Note: If you have set the Patch Level to 200 and the patch is still not loud enough, then I recommend you put that Patch Level at 100 and increase the patch volume using OPTION 2 below.] OPTION 2: 1. Press the MASTER/PEDAL FX button on the BOSS GT-10. 2. Press the RIGHT-arrow button until you have highlighted the FX CHAIN option. 3. Press the ENTER button to go into that FX CHAIN section. 4. Find out which one of these 5-items comes last in the Effects Chain: CMP (COMP/Compressor), Ch-A/Ch-B (PREAMP), EQ, FX1 [Only if it is set to Graphic EQ/Para EQ; Ignore it if it is set to anything else], FX2 [Only if it is set to Graphic EQ/Para EQ; Ignore it if it is set to anything else], 5. Change the Level: of the item you found last in the Effects Chain so the patch is at the Level you like best (but remember what level it was at; write it down for step 6 below). [Example: If you discovered FX2 (which is set to Graphic EQ) comes after all the other 4-items (listed above) in the Effects Chain, the press the EXIT button 2-times, press the FX-2 button, press the DOWN-arrow button until you reached the bottom where it says Level:, and change the Level: setting so the patch is at the volume you like best; Remember what you set the Level: to by writing it down for step 6 below] 6. Whatever Level: you ended up changing [Compressor, Preamp, EQ, FX-1, FX2] you need to make sure that you change it in the ASSIGN section as well (if it is in there). [To do that: Press the MASTER/PEDAL FX button, press the right/left-arrow buttons until you highlight the ASSIGN option, press the ENTER button to go into the ASSIGN section. If any of the numbers at the bottom-left are highlighted in black, press the left/right arrow buttons to view those number-ASSIGNS to see if any of them were set to change the Level: you changed above (in step 5); If none of the black-highlighted number-ASSIGN's are set to change the Level: you changed (in step 5 above), then you are finished. If however you see that one of the black-highlighted ASSIGN's is set to change the Level: you changed (in step 5 above), then you also need to adjust that ASSIGN so it works as intended.] What BOSS GT-10 Patch Files Should I Use [.gxg .mid .syx .zip]? .GXG File Extension: A BOSS GT-10 Librarian Version 1.00 software file type. The BOSS GT-10 Librarian Version 1.00 software is an application that allows you to manage your BOSS GT-10 (guitar multi effects processor) user-patches efficiently as a library on your computer. It is suited for collecting, organizing, copying, and re-ordering large amounts of data; and handles all of the data for all of the BOSS GT-10's patches. In the BOSS GT-10 Librarian Version 1.00 software if you click FILE > OPEN you are able to open a .gxg (BOSS GT-10) patch file; If you click FILE > SAVE (or SAVE AS) you are able to save the patch as a .gxg file onto your computer; You can also save multiple (2 or more) BOSS GT-10 patch files into one .mid file by clicking FILE > EXPORT SMF > ALL DATA. .MID File Extension (MIDI File): Standard MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) file used by music authoring and mixing programs as well as MIDI hardware devices; contains music data, such as what notes are played, when they are played, how long each note is held, and how loud each note is played. .MID files are used to encode MIDI data into a standard format that is interoperable between different types of software programs and hardware devices. They may also contain controller data for a device. For example, a .MID file can be used to change instruments on a MIDI hardware device or modify sustain pedal information. .MID files contain attributes of music data rather than music data itself. They can be played back using software instruments that interpret this data. .SYX File Extension (MIDI System Exclusive Message): Contains raw MIDI System Exclusive (SysEx) messages; allows a computer to communicate with external MIDI-compatible devices, such as backing up patch data from a synthesizer (BOSS GT-10, GT-100, etc.) to a computer’s hard drive. .ZIP File Extension (Zipped File): File compressed or ‘zipped’ using Zip compression; a common type of compression in which every file in the archive is compressed separately; supported by most file compression/decompression programs including my favorite 7-ZIP. BOSS GT-10 Patches by James Limborg are saved in all three file formats (.gxg .mid .syx) and then zipped into one .zip file. After I have received your PayPal payment for the BOSS GT-10 patches that you want, I will e-mail each of the BOSS GT-10 patches you purchased in a separate .zip file. You can then use the 7-ZIP program above (or your favorite Zip program) to un-zip the .zip file/files I sent you to get at the three (.gxg .mid .syx) BOSS GT-10 patch files. All 3 files (that come with each of my BOSS GT-10 patches) have the same patch-information. If you are using the BOSS GT-10 Librarian Version 1.00 software to transfer my BOSS GT-10 patches from your computer into your BOSS GT-10, then you will only need the .mid file that I sent you.
